What's New in December 2023
December 4, 2023
In this update, Grove Art publishes new and updated scholarship from our ongoing project on African American Art. Led by Dr. Steven Nelson, Dean of the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, this project has brought a wealth of new and revised scholarship to Grove covering the work of Black artists in the United States. This month, Grove Art also publishes new articles on African American Architecture and Coreen Simpson, as well as revisions to entries on Aaron Douglas and the Harlem Renaissance. Grove’s December update also includes new articles in our ongoing series covering significant buildings around the world, with new entries on Lever House in New York, the HSBC Building in Hong Kong, and the Willis Tower in Chicago.
This month, Benezit publishes new biographies of modern and contemporary artists, including Egyptian ceramicist Ibrahim Said, champion of abstraction Esphyr Slobodkina, and Filipina artist Pacita Abad, known for her large-scale, colorful, collaged trapunto paintings.
