What's New in August 2023

In this update, Grove Art publishes 1 new article and 15 revisions, as well as 32 emendations as part of our regular corrections process. New scholarship in Grove includes updates to frequently read articles, such as Rosa Bonheur, John Singer Sargent, and Gustave Courbet, as well as new scholarship on Pre-Columbian art, such as the Sicán culture of South America and the Inca citadel Machu Picchu.

Fourteen updated entries in Benezit cover important women artists, including Dutch painter Gestina ter Borch and English painter and educator Maria Cosway, who was elected to the Accademia del Disegno in Florence at nineteen and found success even though her philandering husband, a fellow artist, did not allow her to sell any of her artwork.
