What's New in July 2022

July 15, 2022

In this update, Grove Art publishes 14 new and 38 revised articles, as well as 17 emendations as part of our regular corrections process. New scholarship in Grove Art comes from our ongoing project on Asian art, with new biographies of Chinese and Taiwanese artists including Empress Dowager Cixi, who shaped late Qing court art as a painter, ruler, and patron, and Chen Chieh-jen, whose installations and performances engage with issues of political oppression and social justice. Other new entries cover Chinese export art and Shanghai calendar posters, and updates cover Korean artists like Kim Ŭn-ho, known for his portraits. Benezit publishes updates to the biographies of 12 women artists including Hilma Af Klint and Elizabeth Catlett.
