March 22, 2022

In this update, Grove Art publishes 15 new and 20 revised articles, as well as 10 new images and 54 emendations as part of our regular corrections process. New entries include scholarship on Women as Patrons in 1500–1800 as well as on Kenneth Victor Young and Senga Nengudi, published as part of an ongoing project on African American art supervised by Dr. Steven Nelson. Revised entries include an update to Public Monuments in the United States to address challenges to existing monuments and discuss contemporary approaches to commemoration. Other revised entries include articles updated as part of Grove’s ongoing project on Asian art, with new scholarship on Chinese calligrapher Cai Xiang and the Neolithic site of Machang.

This month, Benezit’s Editor in Chief, Dr. Valerie Cassel Oliver, shares a new Letter from the Editor discussing her editorial priorities and the importance of art scholarship in shaping collective histories.
