This month, Grove Art publishes 37 revised articles, as well as 5 emendations as part of our regular corrections process. Updates include entries on Chinese archaeological sites, dynasties, and schools of painting. Other new material expands biographies of artists such as Wang Meng (1308-1385), who developed a unique style of landscape painting, and Ni Zan (1301-1374), whose paintings often employed the metaphor of clustered trees as friends in a lonely and hostile world. This new scholarship comes from Grove’s ongoing major project on Asian art , led by Dr. Sonya Lee of USC and spanning thousands of articles across the dictionary.
Benezit publishes 12 updated biographies this month, including French Neoclassical portrait painter Constance-Marie Charpentier, American photographer Peter Hujar, and collaborative conceptual art group General Idea.
