Monogram of an engraver.
The monogram A. M. appears, occasionally with subtle differences, on engravings by an artist of this period. Notable engravings are Jael and Sisera, Lucretia, and Gay Society dated 1583. Another print, The Lascivious Woman, appears to be by the same artist but is undated. This monogram should not be confused with the very similar initials of the painter and wood engraver Amman Josse and the initials found on copper engravings which have been attributed to Mantegna. A.
