Gaspard Adam, a son of Nicolas-Sébastien Adam, is chiefly known as one of the last representatives of this family. Through his aunt Anne Adam, wife of Thomas Michel, he was first cousin to Claude Michel, known as Clodion. His very existence was long unknown. The 'Nouvelles archives de l'art français' have found a petition he offered to the king, Louis-Philippe, in which he declares that he is 77 years old, ill, as is his wife, informs the king of his poverty and reminds him that his father had been a sculptor to the former kings of France, also to Stanislas, king of Poland, and that their ruin was due to the Revolution. He stresses his father's patriotism and ends by requesting a pension. Throughout this petition Gaspard Adam speaks only of his father and does not mention any work of his own, of which there is no documentary evidence.
