Sculptor of assemblages.

Edith de Vries studied art history in Amsterdam from 1963 to 1966, then trained as a sculptor and goldsmith in Florence. She took up residence in Belgium around 1975 and became a full-time artist. She creates sculptural objects from a variety of materials such as wood and glass. Her reliefs are almost Baroque, and are made from assembled boxes filled with all kinds of recycled objects, rubbish and scraps from carpenters' workshops or ironworks that are opposites in nature and effect, a process clearly reminiscent of the work of Joseph Cornell....
