Painter, sculptor, designer. Religious subjects, figures, portraits. Stage sets, furniture.

Maria Vassileva began her studies in medicine in St Petersburg from 1902, but switched to the fine art academy. Having received a travel grant, she arrived in Paris in 1905. She went back there in 1907 and finally settled there. A Russian news correspondent, she was a student of Matisse at the same time. She then got to know Max Jacob, among others.
