Painter, watercolourist, illustrator, draughtsman. Historical subjects, costume studies.

James Stephanoff was the son of N. Fileter Stephanoff and the brother of Francis Philip. He briefly attended the Royal Academy Schools. He was essentially a water colourist; he also practised the decorative arts. He was a founding father of the Sketching Society and often worked for the Society of Antiquaries of London producing watercolour reproductions of church embroidery. From ...
