Liliana Porter studied in Mexico under Mathias Goeritz before moving to New York in 1964. Porter's work focuses on the study of the disparity between image and reality, the distance between objects and our perception of them, between things and the words that define them, and between things and us. Although the aim of such work comes within the conceptual art movement, she has adopted strongly visual means, making free use of trompe l'œil effects and even involving her own body in her work.
