Gheringh, Anthon Guntherlocked


Flemish School, 17th century, male.

Active in Antwerp.

Born in Germany; died 1667, in Antwerp.

Painter. Architectural views, church interiors.

He was probably a pupil of Peter Neeffs the Elder. In 1662 and 1663 he is recorded as a master of the Guild of St Luke in Antwerp. Most of his paintings are of church interiors presented in a precise and highly detailed style, almost always looking towards the choir from the west end of the nave. His pictures are of particular documentary and historical value....
