From 1973 to 1979, Günther Förg studied painting under Karl Fred Dahmen at the art school in Munich. He lives and works in Areuse (Switzerland). Studying the work of artists linked to the history of abstract art (Russian Constructivism, the Bauhaus), then contemporary art (Newman, Rothko, Ad Reinhardt), has to a large extent influenced Förg's objectives. Setting himself the problem of repeating an image to infinity in painting, he endeavours to enlarge the pictorial field outside the strict conventions of the frame in order to encompass and dominate the walls and occupy a new space. Later, he would add photographic elements to the painted surface....
