Mike Bidlo is, with American artists Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince and Jeff Koons in his early years, an exponent of Appropriation Art. Influenced by Pop Art, Appropriation Art consists of making a copy of a well-known work of art, which the artist then considers to be his or her original work. The aim of Appropriation Art is to highlight the concept of the artistic masterpiece and the uniqueness of a work of art. Bidlo 're-creates' paintings by Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Giorgio De Chirico and others, though he never obscures their unique quality.
