Florian Abel was the brother of the sculptors Bernhard and Arnold Abel, and was commissioned to produce the sketches for the tomb of Emperor Maximilian, which was to be sculpted by his brothers. He was paid 249 florins and 40 kreutzer for this task. He is believed to have drawn the plan for Frederick I's memorial, which was sculpted by Colin, as well as plans for the memorials to Frederick's wife, the empress, and to Maximilian II.
