After a good secondary education, Louis Sérusier entered the Académie Julian and attended the Doucet studio. He was enthusiastic, enterprising and a fine speaker, and very active in the academy, which also trained Maurice Denis, Bonnard, Vuillard, K.X Roussel, Ranson, René Piot and Ibels.
