Luciano Foti was a pupil of Placido Celi. He was a skilled restorer of paintings. He made copies of the work of Polidoro Carravagio in particular, but also imitated the latter artist in his own work. Foti's copies were of sufficiently high quality as to be mistaken by subsequent generations for originals....
