Manfred Pernice did a course in painting and graphic arts at the Hildesheim academy of arts, followed by a course in sculpture at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin in 1988. He lives and works in Berlin. His preoccupations derive from the huge transformation of the city where he lives. The structures he comes up with are simple to look at: made of planks of wood or bits of card on which the artist can stick posters or photos, they are akin to little houses, boxes and furniture, and are constantly evolving. The preparatory drawings for the construction of his installations are part of the work. The elements can be reused to create other works. His sculptures are 'architectural' in the sense that they refer - on different scales - to dwelling structures, or metropolitan traffic and places of exchange....
