Julius Baltazar evolved from the Surrealism of his early works towards a spontaneous abstraction, which was revived in the 1950s and 1960s, producing works which can be described as abstract landscape art. His paintings evoke wind, air, sea, sky, space and atmosphere, or more precisely any element which is suddenly interrupted by being ripped open, revealing a void, a blank in the middle of which he nervously makes inscriptions reminiscent of Chinese writing or a signature.
