To call Overbeek's still-lifes photographic realism hardly does justice to them, but Hyperrealism and trompe-l'oeil are not much more appropriate. There is perhaps a kinship here with Morandi's assemblages of bottles, insofar as it is the quality of the light that matters; although with Overbeek the virtuosity of rendering reflections on glazed containers and the transparency of glass carafes predominates....
