Born possibly 1459, in Florence; died 1537, in Florence.

Painter, sculptor. Religious subjects, mythological subjects, portraits.

Florentine School.

Credi's date of birth has been established from a tax declaration made by his mother between 1480 and 1481, which states that he was 21 years old. There is also an inscription on the back of the self-portrait in the Widener Collection in Philadelphia, which gives his age as 32 in 1488. However, this inscription comes later and should be given less credence....
