Giovanni Battista Cipriani's family were from Pistoia. He was a pupil of Bartolozzi, and perfected his drawing technique by studying the work of Gabbiani. Cipriani was buried in Chelsea cemetery in London, beneath a monument by Bartolozzi. In 1750, he painted the organ screen in the school of the convent of S Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi.
