Born 3 May 1827, in Lucerne; died 15 January 1909, in Lucerne.

Painter, watercolourist. Religious subjects, genre scenes, landscapes with figures, waterscapes, mountainscapes.

Zünd was the youngest of three boys. He travelled in Switzerland and in Germany, studied with François Diday and Alexandre Calame in Geneva, and went to Paris in 1852. After studying Nicolas Louis Cabat, Alexandre Decamps, François Louis Français, Constant Troyon and the Barbizon School, he went to Dresden for several months before returning to Lucerne.
