Active in the USA from 1935.

Born 1896, in Lemberg (now Lviv, Ukraine); died 1986.

Painter. Religious subjects, figures, nudes, portraits, still-lifes, flowers.

After working on the restoration of churches in Poland, Zygmunt Menkes enrolled at the academy of fine arts in Cracow, travelled to Berlin and on to Paris in 1923. He went to the USA and settled in New York in 1935, where he later exhibited his work. He was influenced by Modigliani's somewhat softened Cubism....
