Hans Fischli studied architectural drawing from 1925 to 1928. During a journey to Stuttgart he visited the Weissenhof estate, the first manifestation of modernity in architecture. From 1929 to 1930 he was a student of architecture and decoration at the Bauhaus, also attending courses in painting given by Kandinsky and Klee, and by Oskar Schlemmer in the wall painting department.
