Cheng Ji or Ch’eng Chilocked


Chinese, 20th century, male.

Born 1912, in Wuxi (Jiangsu).


Cheng Ji taught for four years at St John’s University, Shanghai. In 1947, he went to the USA where he became a member of the American Watercolor Society. His realism, combined with his technical dexterity, brought him considerable success in Shanghai and the USA. Like many of his contemporaries he was much influenced by western painting, retaining his Chinese identity only by his choice of subjects and his signature....
