Jean Cartier lives in New York City and has exhibited in the USA since 1956. His work has been greatly influenced by trends in American art. Cartier shows large coloured Plexiglas compositions where both the substrate and the colour are subject to infinite permutations and modulations. This approach, essentially minimalist, was highly common among the US avant-garde in the early 1970s when there was a concerted attempt to redefine both analytically and intuitively the vocabulary, syntax and overall function of painting....
