Born 1783, in Rochefort-sur-Mer (Charente-Maritime) or in Lautrec (Tarn), according to other sources; died 26 January 1858, in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine).

Jean-Pierre was the son of the painter and decorative artist Pierre-Joseph Alaux and brother of the painters Jean Alaux (known as 'the Roman') and Jean-Paul Alaux ('the Gentle').
