Artist, poet, writer, DJ, and model Juliana Huxtable works in a variety of media. In the 2015 New Museum Triennial, she both exhibited her work and materialized as a life-size sculpture that Frank Benson created from a 3-D scan of her body. Her self-portraits, installed in harmony with this sculpture, stand as a powerful representation of trans and intersex bodies.
Martine Gutierrez utilizes photography, video, fashion, music, and performance art, frequently using her own body and persona as the core of her practice, which explores questions of personal and collective identity. In self-portraits where she is accompanied by mannequins, Gutierrez brings together the artificial and real, portraying femininity as a fluid boundary easily crossed.
